Other Manufacturing Processes
Beyond the six featured pages in this section, TCS runs a further set of finishing, forming, and assembly processes in-house — rounding out the full roster of more than 32 manufacturing processes fully integrated at the Rock Valley facility.
The rest of the process roster.
TCS's Capabilities page lists more than 32 named manufacturing processes running fully integrated in one facility. CNC Machining, Grinding, Deep Hole Drilling, Heat Treating, Friction Welding, and HVOF are significant enough capabilities to each have their own dedicated page in this section. The processes below round out the rest of that in-house roster — the forming, finishing, and assembly steps that often follow machining on the same part, in the same building.
Ten more processes, all under one roof.
Spline Rolling
A cold-forming process that produces splines by displacing material with hardened dies rather than cutting it away, typically yielding a strong, work-hardened tooth form.
Thread Rolling
A cold-forming process that forms threads by rolling a blank between hardened dies, work-hardening the material and leaving a smooth, unbroken grain flow along the thread form.
Knurling
A forming operation that presses a repeating pattern into a cylindrical surface, commonly used to improve grip or to prepare a surface for a press-fit assembly.
Assembly
Combining finished, machined components into a completed sub-assembly or assembly, so a customer receives a ready-to-install unit rather than individual loose parts.
Roller Burnishing
A cold-working finishing process that uses hardened rollers to plastically deform a surface, improving surface finish and inducing beneficial compressive residual stress.
Roto-Flo Cold Forming
A cold-forming method for producing splines, threads, and other precision forms by displacing material under pressure rather than removing it with a cutting tool.
Vibratory Finishing
A mass-finishing process that tumbles parts with abrasive media in a vibrating bowl or tub to deburr edges, refine surface finish, and clean parts after machining.
ID & OD Broaching
A machining process that pulls or pushes a multi-toothed tool through a bore (ID) or across a surface (OD) to cut a precise profile, such as a keyway or spline, in a single pass.
Sawing & Cutting
Cutting raw bar stock or forgings down to length as the first operation in a part's manufacturing sequence, sizing material before it moves into machining.
Deburring
Removing the sharp edges and burrs left behind by machining or forming operations, so a finished part meets edge-condition and safety requirements before shipment.
Looking for CNC Machining, Grinding, or Heat Treating?
CNC Machining, Grinding, Deep Hole Drilling, Heat Treating, Friction Welding, and HVOF each have their own dedicated capability page with more detail. Visit the full Capabilities overview to see the complete list of TCS's in-house processes.
Material selection is driven by the application.
Material selection is driven by each application's engineering requirements — TCS's engineering team helps source, test, and qualify materials for your specific application.
Verified at every step of the process.
Parts moving through spline rolling, broaching, burnishing, finishing, and the rest of these processes pass through the same in-house quality systems as every other TCS job. A SPC network monitors process control, while Vision and CMM measurement systems verify dimensional accuracy — so forming, finishing, and assembly operations are checked with the same rigor as machining and grinding.
