HVOF
High Velocity Thermal Spray — HVOF, short for High Velocity Oxy-Fuel — is one of TCS's in-house processes for adding wear-resistant coatings without altering a part's core geometry.
A coating, not a change to the base part.
HVOF thermal spray propels coating material at high velocity onto a component's surface, building a dense, wear-resistant layer without melting or altering the base part's core geometry or material properties. It's a standard industrial approach for applying wear-resistant, carbide-type coatings to surfaces that see heavy wear in service, while leaving the rest of the part's engineered properties untouched.
High Velocity Thermal Spray (HVOF) is one of the more than 32 manufacturing processes TCS runs fully integrated in-house at its Rock Valley facility.
Coating built into the manufacturing sequence.
Because HVOF is applied in-house alongside machining and grinding, a coated component can move directly into finish grinding or inspection without leaving TCS's facility between operations.
Material selection is driven by the application.
Base material and coating choice both depend on the part's operating environment — material selection is driven by each application's engineering requirements — TCS's engineering team helps source, test, and qualify materials for your specific application.
Where wear-resistant coatings matter.
Components that see continuous wear in the field are common candidates for HVOF coating, particularly in industries running heavy-duty equipment.
Coating vs. a harder base material.
TCS's dedicated internal engineering staff evaluates when a wear-resistant coating is the better engineering solution for a component — compared with specifying a harder (and often more expensive or harder-to-machine) base material, or oversizing a part to compensate for expected wear.
That evaluation is part of the same value-engineering approach TCS applies across every job: delivering value-engineered solutions to market rapidly, cost-effectively, and with outstanding quality.

Checking the coating, not just the part.
TCS's in-house quality systems include Vision and CMM measurement systems and micro-hardness testing — used to confirm that a coated component's dimensions and surface hardness meet the requirements of the application.
